President’s Letter

9/30/22
Dear PSSSNL Members,

The Fall/Winter season is upon us. Those of you who were with us for the 2019-2020 season will recall
that our registration at that time was $130. As we lost a few weeks due to the Covid shutdown, we
decided to do a one-time reduction of player fees down to $100 for the 2021-2022 season. As we are all
aware, most things are more expensive now than they were before the pandemic. That certainly
includes the cost for the league to operate. There was a lot of conversation among the board to offer as
low a player fee as possible, while still being able to pay rental and operational fees. In the end, we
came up with $150. This put us right around the cost of other senior leagues in southern California with
a game schedule similar to ours. A slight change this year is for the moment the fee will not include
hats. We are working on a sponsor to pick up this cost, but in the event we are unable to find one, we
will charge an optional $20 per hat. If you know of a sponsor that might be interested in stepping up,
please by all means contact us and we will follow up promptly.

There have been some changes to the board. Becky Vineyard is stepping away. Perhaps Becky’s biggest
contribution to us has been heading up the end of season picnic. She did a phenomenal job and we’ll be
hard-pressed to achieve her excellence. Also stepping down from the board is Mike Landin. Mike is the
person responsible for bringing organization to the PSSSNL during his time as President. No one has
done more for the league over the last several years than Mike. His work ethic is unmatched. We are
fortunate that he will be staying on as our Webmaster and Field Officer. A huge thank you to Mike and
Becky for being instrumental in the operation of our league. Joining our board will be Scot Howard and
John Viviano. Scot is one of the most well-known figures here in the Coachella Valley when it comes to
softball. He recently ended a wildly successful tenure as Commissioner of the PSGSL league here in Palm
Springs. The experience he brings will immensely help our league. John Viviano is one of the most
recognizable faces in the PSSSNL and is perhaps the league’s most popular player.

John is an accomplished author with a strong penchant for helping people. He will bring some levity to the board and will help to ensure that we keep things “fun”. Thank you, Scot and John. I am grateful to you both.

Today we will be opening up registration. Please do not delay in getting in your paperwork and check
as we have had more inquiries than usual. If we experience an overflow, we will have to place players
on our sub list, so please don’t hesitate. I will be personally following up with everyone by phone or text
in the next couple of days. If you have any questions about anything, please feel free to contact me.
Thanks and play ball!
